ORIGIN of SAMPLE: Tonic/clonic seizure; spit
samples collected on cotton rounds and a roll of gauze (ran out of cotton
rounds). Clonazepam given after 2 minutes of seizure activity.
COMMENTS:
A* Excellent, working
hard to get it right. One false positive. I think this is difficult but she
definitely has a scent.
B* AHA. I put the
seizure scent in can 3, and an empty pill bottle in can 1 and 5. Syn
confidently and positively alerted 30% of the time on each of the three pill
bottles. Great. My dog can find plastic pill bottles. Getting some glass salt
and pepper shakers and washing the tin cans again. I’m going to say that this
sample is dead.
C* Fast and accurate
on the tea bag. Now I’ll put the shaker caps on for the first time.
D* No trouble with the
caps on. She’s reliably circling the wheel, usually counterclockwise, taking a
close, fast whiff of each can.
E* I switched the
teabag vial to a different can, thinking she might alert on the original. While
she did a double take on the original twice, she didn’t stop and went on to
choose the correct one.
